So for Hound Dog, I decided to do my dog Hannah. Originally, I was going to do Hannah wrapped in a blanket, but instead, I ended up with a more theatrical version really showcasing Elvis Presley. The dog in the top hat with a microphone was inspired by the album art of Hound Dog. So I put Hannah in a hat, snapped a few photos, and added the rest in. Now this was my first project where I didn't base it off one photo. Instead I used several. To get the background, I draped a dark red blanket on a sofa and on a chair. I used an app to cut hannah out of her picture and put her on the picture with the red blanket. Then I drew in a microphone that was similar to the one on the album and that Elvis used. I started with the background, mostly because I didn't have a black to start on Hannah (I like starting with the nose and eyes). But I also did that because I started with the dog last time and I thought I'd try it the other way. Doing the background wasn't that difficult, it was mostly time consuming. I used a dark red, a purple, a red, brown and white to create the folds. I think it came out pretty nice. Then for the microphone, I wanted it to look shiny, but at the same time older, so I used white and light yellow to create the highlights, and then I used dark brown to do the darker areas.
Once I purchased a black colored pencil, I started working on her nose, eyes, and top hat. I had to add a little bit of a lighter shine to the hat than the picture had to give it more depth. After I finished the hat, I started on her fur. I did her head first, which was smoother than the rest of her because she has shorter hair there. Then I started on her body, working my way down in sections. It was fairly easy to do this, her fur wasn't too difficult and I managed to have a good idea early on about what colors match her fur.
I connected her with Hound Dog because she always has a look on her face that looks like she's about to cry. She also howls all the time, but it's not like the low deep howl. Its like a screeching ear piercing sound and it sounds like she's crying.
I think it turned out well, I enjoy using prisma colors. I think I might go back and add some darker tones at the bottom near her leg, and some darker fur in a couple places to give her more depth. But I think it turned out well.
