For my first piece of summer work, I did a painting of my family's shoes with acrylic. I faced some challenges, like trying to differentiate the browns in the shoes from the brown used in the background, and the white shoe. However, I think it turned out great and I am proud of what I've accomplished. It took the longest to complete and I think it shows. I wouldn't change anything in this project.
For my multimedia project, I did a sailboat. I painted the background with acrylic. I found fabric and I hand sewed it onto the canvas to create the sail. For the boat, I used different colored brown strips of newspaper that I water colored. I think the end result was good, however I did vision it differently and I will most likely be going back to add more detail wherever I can. |
I did a painting on wood also during the summer. It was different painting on wood, but I'm glad I got the experience of using different materials to paint on. I went to the beach and took pictures of glass bottles on the sane. I had my little brother cut me a rectangular size of wood to paint on. It was my first time attempting to paint glass bottles. Overall, I think it looks cool, but I know that I have already improved with drawing glass and I can't wait to add more detail to this project. I used acrylic paint to paint it.
Over the summer, I also attempted a self portrait. I wanted to move away from acrylic and experiment with other mediums, so I decided to try water color. I have done simple little water colored doodles in the past, but this was my first real art piece with water color. Once I sketched out my face (which took a day or two, I had to redo my nose at least 10 times), I started adding watercolor. Once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too hard and I enjoyed it. I am excited to use water color for future projects and improve my skills.

For my mini concentration, I did prismacolor drawings of aspects from a diner I visited over the summer. I thought the diner was really cute (not to mention the food is amazing), and I thought I could get some good compositions. I did an up close of sweet tea and then I did a scene with food and drink and background. I didn't really know how to use prismacolors too well, and I hope to be improving with my skills. I like the way they turned out, however, I think they can be improved. I need to stress the dark parts of the drawing more. But overall, I'm glad I was able to use prismacolors and I'm satisfied with how it turned out.
